Highlights From Graduate Fashion Week Day 2

Day two of graduate fashion week is over and what a day it was. With shows from Manchester School or Art and extravagant presentations from Manchester Fashion Institute, this was a day where extreme talent was bursting from the seams.

The Manchester Fashion Institute put on a presentation that was not to be missed. Immediately you were greeted with flamboyant characters wearing equally flamboyant designs created by the talented students. The models interacted with the audience and it felt like one big celebration of the hard work from the students. Glitter balls and silver streamers made the space feel like a retro disco and showcased the students work in a fun and unique way.

The Manchester School of Art put on a show of such a high standard. The hard work that the students put in to each of their collections was so apparent. With streetstyle graffiti-like prints, to exaggerated ruching in a variety of neons and stimulating colour combinations, it is exciting to think how these students will change the fashion industry in the future.

As well as the impressive displays from the students, day two saw the Tessuti panel talk entitled, ‘Colliding worlds: How streetwear became mainstream’. This was hosted by Tessuti menswear buyer, Nabz with industry expert speakers, Kish Kash and Romario Chevoy. They discussed how streetwear has become mainstream and how this will affect the future of fashion. They also discussed how designers take influence from the street as well as how social media affects the consumption of fashion and how to stay authentic throughout this.

This was a day of talent and exciting discussions about the future of fashion. We can’t wait to see what day three has in store.
