How To Make The Most of Your Basics

If you simply want to hit the refresh button on your basic wardrobe or plan to take things a little easier in the spending department, below is what you can do to ensure your style takes no hits as you splash out on new gear.

The White Trainer

White trainers, go with anything and everything. You probably have more than one pair lurking in your arsenal of footwear, but do you have a pair of the classic Mallet GRFTR trainers? We’re wearing ours with CK one joggers, black skinny jeans or Prevu Signature cycling shorts, and each time our kicks are being given new life.

The Basic T-shirt

If there’s one item we can guarantee you own, it’s a crisp white T-shirt. Nearly every brand has its own offering of the humble cotton number, from Vivienne Westwood and Holland Cooper to Polo Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger. Whether worn under a jacket, with a pair of sweatpants, under a hoodie, or underneath an oversized shirt, the possibilities of wearing a basic t-shirt are endless. No one will ever bat an eyelid if you wear one more than once.

The Hoodie

The hoodie has come a long way. No longer associated with wrongdoing, thanks to brands such as Helmut Lang, Billionaire Boys Club and CP Company. Worn with matching sweatpants for a store run, under a blazer for a laid-back take on office wear, or simply with a pair of trousers, the hoodie is the additional layer any outfit deserves.

Sweatpants

Like the hoodie, sweatpants have had a reckoning. Now worn with trainers or tucked into socks they aren’t just seen as your lazy Sunday best. Instead, sweatpants are swiftly becoming a versatile piece of homewear that you can wear outside, largely thanks to the way they’ve been presented on catwalks. If your office allows it, wear them with a shirt and white trainers for a dress-down Friday look worth talking about.
