It’s Time to Detox: Ideas For Veganuary 2022

With the indulgence of Christmas behind us all, apart from a leftover turkey butty perhaps,  thoughts turn toward the New Year and the annual well-being kickstart that is Veganuary 2022. We’ve taken a look at some of the best vegetarian and vegan options to eat out and at home this January.

Recently opened YATAY is a robatayaki restaurant, inspired by the new age Izakayas of Tokyo and the street culture of Japan. Pickling and fermenting are central to the menu which uses traditional Japanese techniques to create authentic sharing plates. Throughout January, guests can enjoy signature vegan dishes including Mushroom gyoza with Chinese chives and truffle yuzu and King oyster mushroom with lime and smoked salt from the robata grill, alongside Delica pumpkin and Baby aubergine with shiro miso and scallion.

Green menu

January will see the relaunch of Pastaio’s green menu at both sites, which comprises a generous selection of vegan antipasti, pasta dishes and desserts. This year, the new menu will include the likes of Fennel, orange and black olive salad, Treviso tardivo, chestnut and red wine linguini and Congolese chocolate mousse with pistachio and honeycomb (£8), for dessert.

Also new for 2022 will be a limited-edition, plant-based “Carbonara’’, in collaboration with Lele’s – East London’s cult vegan cafe. Made from tofu, spices and mezze maniche, this twist on the classic Carbonara will be available until 31st January, and £1 from every plate purchased will be donated to Made in Hackney.

Rosa’s Thai

For those planning on staying at home in January Rosa’s Thai, has launched its first retail range, delivering Rosa’s signature pastes, oils and sauces across the UK – and they’re all entirely vegan. Each product is made to Rosa’s tried-and-tested recipes perfected over decades, using the best in authentic Thai ingredients for a punchy, fragrant range allowing Rosa’s Thai fans to recreate their favourite dishes at home. The range comprises five of Rosa’s most popular condiments, oils and pastes: their massaman curry paste, Thai red and green curry pastes, chilli oil and satay sauce.

This January, Honest Burgers is partnering with purveyors of mushroom-based meat alternatives, Fable Food Co, to launch the TERIYAKI  PLANT burger – a new limited-edition special available from 4 – 31 January.

Fable’s premium plant-based pulled shiitake mushrooms will take centre stage in the TERIYAKI PLANT, combining a plant-based burger patty with Fable pulled shiitake mushrooms, teriyaki sauce, Applewood vegan cheese, grilled peppers, Honest’s homemade vegan umami mayo and lettuce for a decadent sweet-savoury build that packs an umami punch, served with homemade rosemary salted chips. Designed to mirror its vegan counterpart, the TERIYAKI BEEF will also be available for meat eaters.
