New York Fashion Week: AW20 Trend Report

New York Fashion Week: AW20 Trend Report

So, another New York Fashion week has been and gone adding another event to tick off fashion week season. It’s one of the highlights of the fashion calendar, dishing up some of the city’s effortless cool time and time again. This year the unofficial theme was clearly elevated casual wear. Soft fits and relaxed cuts dominated. Here’s some of our NY highlights.

Normcore Makes A Comeback:

When the Normcore movement had its first heyday a couple of years ago it seemed to just come and go in a matter of months. After all, there’s only so much you can do with black and grey. That being said, Normcore made a rather distinguished return in New York this season. Gone are the slim black jeans. In their place, wide cut tailored trousers and high quality shirting. The bright young brands championing the look include PAA and Eckhaus Latta.

Statement Sportswear:

While a lot of people were focused on who didn’t show in New York we eagerly turned our attention to one of the brands that was. Palm Angels returned to the Big Apple for a second time with a typically brave collection of high end sportswear. With influence lifted from the visual language of Western movies the pieces made quite a buzz. Velour tracksuits with tassle detailing made a big splash. Statement sportswear is going nowhere and its definitely getting better.

Embrace the Diffusion Line:

As athleisure continues to boom in the world of fashion the myriad of diffusion lines that appear every season can feel like a bit of a minefield. M Missoni managed to remind us all of the power of diffusion as an extension of a brand’s values. Rather than diluting the Italian house’s creative vision, M Missoni presented a collection that provides a playful addition to the design philosophy of Missoni.  We take our hat’s off to them.
